Loose lips

The Hill reports this morning that Republicans are telling tales out of school regarding information from a closed, and ostensibly secret, House intelligence committee briefing.

“Based on what I heard and the documents I have seen, I came away with a very clear impression that we did gather information that did disrupt terrorist plots,” [Rep. John Kline (R-Minn.)] said.

Sounds like a clear, unequivocal declaration, no? Or maybe more like a carefully parsed, cya muddle of weasel words…?

I don’t know much about Kline, but he was backing up Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), who, along with most Republicans, doesn’t have much credibility on the matter of criticizing the veracity of the CIA.

The Republicans in congress also include members who claim — including Hoekstra — we found wmd in Iraq, that evolution is suspect and that climate change due to global warming is a vast left wing scientific community anti capitalist scam.

As The Hill article makes clear, this ties back to the flap over Nancy Pelosi’s claim that the CIA misled her regarding the use of waterboarding as well as former president vice president Dick Cheney’s claim that there are documents proving that torture yielded evidence that foiled terrorist plots.

Of course, senator Carl Levin (D-Mich) strongly disputed that claim. This is of course subjective, but, as far as I’m concerned, Levin beats Cheney hands down in a contest over credibility any day of the week.

The Democrats in congress should open everything up for review, including what the CIA said to who and when. The fact that they’re not doing so could indicate some complicity in the torture question.

But even if some, uh, past flexibility, on the issue would come to light a a result of full disclosure, they would still be better served by that tack than they are by keeping mum on the issue and letting the Republicans make claims they are unwilling to refute.

Five deferment Dick takes terrorism more seriously than you

Former vice president Cheney, who sought and won five draft deferments in the Vietnam era because he “had other priorities” than fighting in a war in which he supported others being killed, is speaking now on national television. He is promulgating more misinformation about his administration and the current one. No surprise there.

One of the most glaring was his claim that, after 9/11, his administration attacked nations that “had the capacity to produce weapons of mass destruction.” Does that sound familiar? It’s not what he and the other administration lackeys were peddling in the run up to the invasion of Iraq. At that time, they were speaking in certainties about the indisputable fact that Iraq not only had all kinds of weapons of mass destruction, but that they were just days, hours, minutes away from launching wmd filled drones and killing us all. Especially your family.

You don’t want terrorists to kill your family, do you? Then shut up and let us invade Iraq.

But they didn’t only lie about Iraq having wmd. They also lied about a connection between Iraq and al-qeada, Iraq involvement in 9/11and a slew of other fantasies.

Of course, when enough people realized the lies, it was too late and we are now stuck in Iraq for who knows how long. This was what this man’s sage advice brought us before.

And, of course, he completely glosses over how he and everyone else in the administration ignored intelligence before 9/11 that al qeada was planning attacks in the US.

And now, for some strange reason, the Republican party, the American Enterprise Institute and the media villagers think we should still listen to this man’s opinion about world affairs. I wouldn’t listen to his opinion about the color of orange juice.

Here’s a reminder of some of the lies and bullshit he and his cronies have spouted before:

Five deferment Dick makes his first appearance at 2:16. At 3:54, Bush does his hilarious bit about not being able to find wmd at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner — you know, the one that was classy and had all the villagers rolling in the aisles, unlike Stephen Colbert’s unwelcome snark or Wanda Sykes’ meanness. And at 4:57, an off camera passer by tells five deferment Dick during an interview what the vast majority of Americans think of him.

Disgusting rightwing Republicans hope for mass casualty attack and think dead Americans = Republican Renaissance

These people are utterly without shame and need to be called out.

Noted moron and cheerleader for our failure and death, Erick Erickson, is at it again:

How Many Americans Will Die Because of Barack Obama’s Weak National Security Leadership?

This mouth breathing ethical debtor, like the zombie Cheney, cannot restrain his hope for another terr’ist attack. They actually believe they will be able to turn it to their advantage.

a commenter adds, without refutation

And the sooner they die the better.

Yep, we might as well face it. There will be a terror attack and it just may be the catalyst to turn the 15% of white, middle class taxpayers who voted for Obama into realists.

So, quit bemoaning what is coming because Obama, Pelosi and Reid are NOT going to change their direction. My only hope is that it is in a real blue city in a real blue state.

Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

Redstate.com is notorious for quickly deleting, or ‘blamming’ anyone who deviates one iota from their hymnal. If this comment remains un’blammed’ then we know where these hypocrites stand.

And they wonder why the American people continue to reject their bitter partisan delusion that, if we fail and suffer enough death and destruction, we’ll come crawling back to them.
